Massive Heist in Colorado: Nearly 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles Stolen from Cargo Truck

In a stunning theft that has shocked authorities and gamers alike, nearly 3,000 units of the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2 were stolen from a cargo truck in Colorado, with an estimated value of $1.4 million.

The incident came to light on June 8 when deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report at a rest area in Bennett, Colorado, located about 37 miles east of Denver. The driver of the semi-truck, during a routine pre-trip inspection, discovered that the trailer had been broken into. He immediately alerted law enforcement.

Photos released by the Sheriff’s Office on social media depict a visibly ransacked cargo area with multiple missing boxes. The investigation is ongoing, and it’s still unclear if the truck was broken into while parked in Bennett or during a previous stop on the route.

Stolen Goods: 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 Units

Authorities have confirmed that 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were stolen in the heist. The high-demand gaming system, which officially hit store shelves on June 5, is already being hailed as Nintendo’s fastest-selling console to date.

One of the popular variants — the Nintendo Switch 2 bundled with Mario Kart World — is listed on retail websites like GameStop for $499.99. This makes the total retail loss from the theft around $1.4 million, according to estimates.

The driver, who was en route from Nintendo of America’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington to a GameStop distribution center in Grapevine, Texas, told investigators he was unaware of the specific contents inside the trailer. He only knew it was loaded with “games or toys,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Felony Theft Investigation Underway

As of June 17, no arrests have been made, and law enforcement is actively pursuing leads. Authorities have stated that the suspects, once identified, could face serious charges including felony theft — due to the high value of the stolen goods — and criminal mischief.

This case brings to mind other high-profile heists, such as the infamous $100 million jewelry theft involving diamonds, emeralds, and luxury watches, which authorities dubbed the largest of its kind in U.S. history.
